Although it is very early days, it can be a good idea to think about where you would like your baby to be born because this may influence your choice of Lead Maternity Carer(LMC). Some LMCs only attend births in hospitals, some only attend births at home or in birthing centres or maternity hospitals.
In most places in New Zealand your options for place of birth are:- home, maternity unit/birthing centre, or secondary or tertiary hospital.
For more information about homebirth go to www.homebirth.org.nz
If you live in the districts in Auckland covered by the MAMA Maternity Information Services contract, your choices of birthplace for hospital birth are:-
- Warkworth Birth Centre
- North Shore Hospital
- Helensville Birthing Centre
- Waitakere Hospital
- National Women’s at Auckland City Hospital
- Birthcare Maternity Hospital
*Tip – Most of these hospitals and birthing centres hold tours for expectant parents a couple of times each week. Actually visiting the hospital and having a look around can help you decide where you would like to give birth.
